It wasn't all going so well (before you came)
And you told me you needed space,
With a kiss on the side my face (not again)
And not to mention (the tears I shed)
But I should have kicked your (ass instead)
I need intervention
Attention to stop temptation to scream

Everything is mest up straight from the heart
Tell me what do you do, when it all falls apart
Gotta pick myself up where do I start
Cuz I can't turn to you when it all falls apart

===================PROLOGUE====================
I stood and watched while the world burned. It was an odd feeling. To see the end of all things. I was not concerned with my own survival. For I knew I would surely survive. Fire being no danger to me thanks to my constitution. But the people....their entire world was coming to naught. I felt for them, for what they were losing, for their lives and for their world. I look out now and all I see is, well, nothingness. Nothing is left. The very world was consumed by the Fire. And now, all that is left for me to do is to remember, and move on and watch the next world be consumed.
Please, do not misunderstand me, I am not responsible for this phenommena. I just know where and when it occurs, and I watch. I watch to remember all that was lost. I remember the splendour of a thousand worlds and the worst of it, I remember the end. They give me names when I arrive, for they see me as they wish. Most commonly they called me the Watcher, for to them, that was all I did.
I'm not sure about the exact existence of these worlds, whether they exist in the same space or time and the like, but that does not matter. Not to me anyway. A thousand worlds, all no longer existing. Consumed by the Fire. And I'm all that remains. Let me tell you their stories.
===================CREATION=====================
When I first came into being, it was a strange thing. I had no creator, at least none I knew about and for all I knew, I came into being from my own volition. Whether there was some greater need for an entity like myself to be present in the universe, I didn't know. So I wandered aimlessly or at least, so I thought. I came across many worlds yet, I felt no urge to travel to them, to converse with other beings. And nor did I meet any others quite like myself. It was disconcerting (if I could experience such a feeling completely) to say the least, to know that I was totally alone in the universe. So I continued to wander, travelling what I thought to be an aimless path throughout the stars.
======================THE FIRST WORLD============================
It came to pass that, I entered a system with 15 planets circling the yellow sun of that particular system in concentric orbits. Only one of these worlds was inhabited, with only one moon which appeared to be an anomaly in this region of space. That being that none of the other planets had any satelites to speak of. I found myself strangely compelled to visit the inhabited planet. Which was something that had never occurred to me before. Curious as I was, I explored that world. Had I known what was to come... well, I doubt I would have stopped at any rate. It sadly, appeared to be my very nature to view such things.
These beings had achieved a high level of prosperity and an even greater level of technology. I'm not sure what compelled them to do so, perhaps it was my appearance in the sky, but for some reason soon after my arrival, they endeavoured to alter the orbit of their one moon. Whatever their intentions, they succeeded in altering its course. Whether they initially achieved what they are after, is unclear to me. In those days (which I consider to be my beginning), I did not make contact with those whose worlds I did visit. I simply had no interest in the people. I considered that I had plenty of time to view their world, their civilisation. I was ignorant of the events to come.
What these people did not realise was, was that altering the moons orbit would not only be catasstrophic to the ecosystem of their world in the long run, but it would also have an adverse on the moon itself. They did not live long enough to find out what would happen to their planet. They must have miscalculated on some point of data, I do not know which. The effect of this was that it drifted just a touch too close to the planet. The gravity of the planet dragged it far too close than it should have been. This put the moon on a collision course with the planet itself. As it neared I am sure they knew they had made an error. Whether or not they attempted at any point to rectify this I also do not know. All I knew was I was powerless to stop what was about to happen.
As it drifted closer, the moons own gravity played havoc with the tectonic plates of the planet, tearing it apart. Lava boiled from beneath the surface, oceans boiled and the planets three huge rings of volcanoes, previously tamed by technology, erupted. At this point I surmised that there were no living entities left on the planet, with the exclusion of me (if my existance can indeed be called "living"). However as if that was not enough, the moon slowly but surely crept towards the planet. I watched and waited, knowing that the world was already finished, but unable to leave until I had seen the end. Eventually it entered the atmosphere of the planet, tearing the regions closest to it asunder. As it neared the surface (or where the surface used to be) the atmosphere burned. It is wrong of me to think so, the death of a civilisation I know, but it was glorious to behold. The crimson flash of the end... I was entranced.
The entire world flared up around me. And then there was nothing. Not even a single string remained of that planet. That was the first time I witnessed what I would later come to learn as the Fire.
======================The Dancers=================
It was a long time before I approached another world, whether it was simply that far away or whether I feel some compulsion to stay away from any life after what I had witnessed, I did not know. But eventually I did approach another world and again I did as before, I watched. The people who inhabited the world were well aware of my presence, that much is for sure. In the beginning I never was one for subtlety, so I simply floated above their skies. On occasion I would make for land and simply sit, albeit some measure of distance above the ground and continue to watch. They were intrigued I must say, or perhaps the correct term is overly curious.
There first reactions aside, I must say I was surely there for an extended amount of time, because they soon (by my reckoning, which is no reckoning at all) proceeded with life as usual. I should now take time to explain the physiology of this particular worlds inhabitants, but first I think it is necessary to explain the geography of the world itself. It was largely an aquatic world. And land that there actually was, was covered by thin veins of water. Therefore it would not be incorrect to say that the entire surface was, at one point or another, water. The species which inhabited the planet had of course evolved with the fact clearly present in their form. They were, simply enough, skimmers. Their large and webbed feet were used to skim across the surface of their planet, and to cope with the deeper regions (of which there were a few) they had 6 elongated arms each ending in a webbed hand.
They had clearly achieved sentience, or what I percieved as such. They're primitive society revolved around various dances, in circular patterns, whilst they joined there (many) hands. It was fascinating to observe. I couldn't help but wonder what purpose these served. The longer I stayed the more complex these dances became, with circles joining and converging at different points before coming appart again and being wholly different in a way I could not comprehend. I was amazed at the complexity of these and wondered if they had some understanding of what exactly they were doing. It actually seemed like they were working some change on the planet itself with their dances but I realised that this could not be the case and I dismissed it as foolishness on my part.
Slowly but surely it seemed, their dancing became faster and faster. And they abondoned all other tasks which would usually be included in and around this ritual to focus on it, I assumed. Gradually the climate began to change. Why it did I had no idea. This did not concern me over much, I was far too intrigued by the dancing. However there was a sudden change. Far to sudden to be the result of the seasons. The temperature rose to extremes and the effect of this was catastrophic. The oceans boiled. It was so sudden. They had nowhere to go. They finally stopped dancing. The screams... indescribable. When it was over, all that was left were the grotesque forms of the ruined civiliasation (or the beginning of it) within the water.
I fled the graveyard world which was once full of life aquatic, and as I did I felt a feeling I had never experienced before. I felt fear. Where this came from I could not tell you, but that was not all that felt different. The very nature of my mind had seemed to change. There was still the persistant tug which drew me ever onwards, but at the same time there was something new. Something which was not there before. In my mind I could percieve clearly complex patterns forming and as a result of this, as I looked out into the physical realm I could see the same resulting patterns occuring in the movement of the planets and the slow rotations of the galaxies. From this I gained an extroadinary understanding of how things worked, in a universal sense. Still rudimentry in its nature, but nevertheless it was an amazing thing to realise. At the same time it almost seemed like I could affect a change within these patterns at my whim, but I convinced myself that any change occuring was pure coincidence and not my doing.
======================The Blind==================
It happened that I cam across another world wholly sooner than I had originally intended. I had begun to believe that any world I visited would be doomed, which I later found to be true. Reluctanty (as was always the case) I found myself watching this world. It was a peculiar world (well, all were peculiar to my senses) which somehow had managed to generate and maintain life. This fact alone is not suprising, the fact that it did it without a sun is the truly remarkable piece of information I garnered. The entire world was dark. It had a moon, but the inhabitants were not aware of this, thanks to the fact that it was unable to reflect the suns light. The only light source present was from the many stars in the sky, which shone brightly without any other competing sources. From my own quick observations, it appeared that the inhabitants had acheived an adequate level of intelligence and self awareness, yet were still without technology and artificial and natural light sources, including fire.
The flora and fauna of the world was interesting as well (my own senses were not inhibited by the darkness or cold). Having evolved completely bereft of light or heat, it had managed to adapt remarkably well. The colours of the plants all seemed to be dull tones, having no need to attract insects or the like for pollination thanks to the perpetual night, they were also incredibly beautiful. It is hard for me to explain it exactly, but they were asymetrical, which seemed to me to be the most striking aspect of their beauty. The beasts which roamed the landscape appeared to be huge furred beasts, no doubt covered in a thick coating of fur and dust. Most of them appeared to be quadrapeds with a few tripeds thrown into the mix, those seemed to be the lesser of the two types.
As I floated across the sky I realised that unlike the two previous worlds, they were completely oblivious to my presence. I found this somewhat disconcerting, and I found it almost rude on my part. No doubt this feeling was the left over vestiges of one of the previous worlds racial memory which I had managed to aquire merely through watching. Therefore I decided to make myself known to them. I was, at first, unsure of how to do so. I decided then to descend to the surface, and get a look at the sentient creatures which inhabited the world. So down I went and for the first time in my living memory I conversed with a species.
I decided that any one of the inhabitants of the world would do, since I assumed that they would all be of like manner and mind. One thing I had not quite figured out yet though was what exactly they looked like. I learnt that soon enough however, and like the planet it was peculiar. They were peculiar in that, they almost seemed like shadows. Oh, they occupied a space, that was for sure. And this was in the physical realm of course. But it was not so much that the space they occupied was full, but that it was not empty. This vexed me. Therefore I travelled around that dark world and sure enough, it was true. They were there, but then in the same sense they weren't. I decided that to learn more of this species I would need to actively interact with one. This was my first time conversing with another being. I had, in the beginning worried about not being able to understand the creature I had approached (which was foolish of me, I was forgetting my previous experiences, which taught me that there was little I couldn't learn rapidly).
As soon as I engaged in conversation with this indivdual (who was in an area which was abandoned and arid, even for this world) I learned that understanding would not be a problem. His words were not so much spoken as they were heard, which was similar in a way to their physical being. Of all the beings on this world, I doubt I could have chosen a better albeit stranger one to talk to, though all things are strange to me. I introduced myself to him, wondering if he could understand me. He could and introduced himself to me. His name was Vesper (which I found fitting) and I was shocked at how came he was at talking to me. It appears though that this was another trait of his species. They (meaning others like him) referred to themselves as the Illundun. I entered a particular line of questioning with him, which was quite unintentional. I endeavoured to ask him why he was out here, in this particular barren wasteland. It was at that point I realised something, he seemed to be able to see. I immediately switched my question to one enquiring about this, and he answered promptly, though not rudely. He proceeded to tell me that, unlike most of his species he possessed a single eye, which allowed him to see. I asked him what exactly he saw. He told me quite simply, all things. He then told me that he had seen me coming, long before I had arrived. And then he said, after I arrived, all he saw was brightness, and then nothing.
I knew then that this world was doomed, like the others, it was just a matter of time. I left Vesper there, and I knew that he surely knew that this was the end. I could not find it in me to continue to talk to him, knowing that we both knew what was to come. I was not sure how it would end, and I think neither did he. I returned to the sky once more and wandered aimlessly across the skies, continuing to watch. And then it came. So suddenly, that it defied all possibility. A sun came into being, at the center of the system. And instantly the Illundun died, their deaths quick. They screamed as one as they withered in the light. And so too did their planet. Within a day it was reduced to a husk. Naught but a solid core of metal, which reflected the light off the sun brightly. There was nothing left for me here, I wanted to stay, to mourn the loss of Vesper and the Illundun, but I could not. The etheral tug which drew me ever onwards was overpowering.
And I could not help but wonder what purpose I was serving. Was I to be but an omen, a portent of disaster? Was it me who was wreaking the destruction, submitting these worlds to the horrors and the damage of the Fire? To these questions I had no answer, and it would be a long time, and many worlds before I found one.
====================The Destroyers================
The world I saw was bereft of an natural eco system. This seemed to have been whittled away by the complete industrialisation of the world. Huge foundries covered the planet, producing endless amounts of machines. The creatures which inhabited this world were huge. Far greater in stature and physique than any other of the creatures on the previous worlds I had visited. They appeared to be perfectly adapted for combat and I suspect, were genetically modified for this purpose. They were bipedal, standing upright. Each possessing four eyes, placed horizontally across their faces, with the outer two being more towards the side of their heads, expanding their line of sight. On the outside of their forearms, extending along the length of each arm were shape blades, sleek and smooth, perfect for fighting in close quarters. Their bodies were lined with what appeared to be black carapace armour, the result of a symbiotic relationship with one of the many peculiar fauna of the world, who attached itself to the host.
Their foundries churned out huge machines of war, each one more potent than the last. I saw huge ships, created for the transportation of troops, and destroyers armed to the teeth with an array of weaponry. Treaded vehicles with huge mounted guns rolled out of factories, ready for war. They possessed vast machines, capable of destruction on a planetwide scale. I saw no tools for creation, bar those which worked to allow the creation of these monstrosities, but their existence was purely to create a means for destruction. I had no desire to find out anymore about these creatures.
Though I could not help but to wonder what drove them towards this path, towards this unnatural existence. They had completely destroyed their planet, altered their genetic codes and for what I wondered? So that they might make war upon others? I found the very thought disturbing, having only witnessed cultures who existed peacefully, I had come to see it as the norm.
I wondered as to how I might go about destroying this monstrosity of a world, of a civilisation. Then I saw thee answer, a belt of asteroids which they had used in some part for minerals. I would use those to bring about their destruction. It took me but a little while, to begin moving the asteroid field. Breaking up a few of the larger ones to serve my purpose. At no time did I doubt my actions. For I believed I was beyond that point, I believed that I could trigger a change, for the better.
I guided them, one by one. And every one of those cursed rocks hit something. A foundry, a callous machine of destruction or the very homes of those that perpetuated the slaughter of billions. The entire world was aflame. I left it burning in disgust. One I had helped perpetuate the existence of the Fire, and yet at no point did I regret my actions. I saw myself as a saviour. I had destroyed one world, for the sake of many.
What happened next, was rather peculiar.
===================The Protectors==================
The shift was slight, but to one such as I, clearly noticable. Everything appeared to be the same, with the world of the Thasians still over run with industrialisation. But where I had left chaos and flames, this world was still continuing. It was if my actions had not occurred. I decided to continue upon my previous course and
=================The Persecutors==================
It was in this state of mind that I left the system, and came across the Aristatii. You must understand that, within my current state I was not myself, whatever concept of self I then held. I had, as with all the others whose destruction I had witnessed, absorbed a part of their biological make up. Whether it be in the realm of the senses or otherwise. In this particular case, I now possessed and extreme sense of selflessness. Now this I couldn't understand, though in hindsight I should have known better, but at the time... Well, I was simply confused. To me, the Thasians were completely dominating, selfish and above all, violent. So it was with this new found perspective, this feeling that I came across the Aristatii. And how I loathed them.
Their world was made up of a strict hierarchy, in which the Untouchable class lorded over the others. Each one above the other and at the very bottom, were the Unseen. The depravity of the situation was, admittedly sickening. I had now developed enough that I possessed a semblance of emotion, and the sight of this persecution horrified me. Me. Who seemed above all else. I who had came forth through what I had then assumed to be of my own volition. There appeared to be no difference between any of the species, they all were bipedal, standing upright, with elongated necks. There were no perceptible differences between male and female, in fact I would not be surprised if they were entirely asexual.
This surprised me, the fact that these people were exactly the same, and yet segregated themselves so. That I could not understand. At this point, I had realised that each world served some purpose or another, or at least, that there was a reason for me to be there. And I could not fully understand why this world was one I was visiting, though this may simply have been remnants of my confusion of the previous world I had visited. So it was with this lack of understanding (which oft seemed to be my lot) that I descended among them. And for the second time I made myself known to a species as a whole.
There take on me was surprising. Each class perceived me within their own circumstances. The Unseen believed I was their saviour, come to deliver them from persecution. The Unmentionables thought I was the bringer of a workers revolution, to bring about a society where all are equal. And the Untouchables, they took me for a god, one who would deliver them their dreams, as depraved and selfish as they could be. I did not speak, though wherever I passed I heard their shouts, there calls for me. And still I learnt nothing. I travelled the entirety of that world, I do not know how long it took me, for time was irrelevant, but I saw the entire world. And still I knew nothing.
And then I saw it, a great glass pyramid, build with the blood of a billion Unseen and Unmentionables. It was flawless, geometrically perfect. How I had not seen this previously, I do not know. And this concerned me. How could such a thing, such a creation be hidden from me? I could feel the power emanating from it, power which was not there before. And then I saw the Untouchables, and I saw the great device they had built, facing the pyramid.
And I saw then the purpose of their plan, the device would shine a beam of light, pure light, into the glass pyramid. But what this would do I had no clue, no real idea of the final result. I knew the theory behind it, but this...this seemed like something more. Like something beyond what the result should be. And soon enough, my suspicions proved to be right as they fired the beam.
The beam of light was indeed as they intended, pure, flawless, like the perfect object they fired it into. And the result was stunning. I marvelled at its beauty. An explosion of colour resulted, as I had expected, but it was unlike anything I had seen before. And then it struck me, the light continued to grow and explode, as the Aristatii stood as one and marvelled at it. And I saw within the light the beginnings of something, and I looked at it, with the colour, with the sight of the Illundun, and I saw the Fire, and I saw the creation. The creation of a new world. And this world fed of the existing one, and continued to grow, and before long there was a new world in the place of the old one, which was destroyed completely by this leech.
And so it was I left this world, and as I travelled through the cosmos, to my new destination, I held out my hands, and from one exuded a shaft of light, and from the other, a small glass. And these met, and the resulting colour flared, and then disappeared, and within the space that was once empty, there occupied, a single string. That which was within everything, and I took this string, and I kept it with me, the result of my creation.
====================The Abyss==================
I came across a system which was teeming with life. There were multiple worlds, each full of sentient life. They seemed to be at peace, and communicating with each other and sharing technological advances. They each possessed unique cultures developed around the worlds and yet they all seemed to possess a unique symbiotic relationship with one another, as if one world could not do without the other. It seemed to me to be an almost paradoxical existence when compared to that of the Aristatii, who were so similar yet so seperate. In contrast these worlds were so different and yet all acknowledged (at least openly) the equality prevalent among them.
I saw upon the world a huge fissure, which had almost rendered it in half. However around this fissure were the more temperate and fertile regions of the world and most of the population were centered around these regions.
=================The Many=======================
I witnessed upon that world, as I viewed its entirety, a single woman, who stood out from the rest. She entranced me and soon I found myself focusing on her movements.
Again I viewed this world as I had the others, and to my shock I saw her. That same woman from the world which they had called Lorentia. And make no mistake, she was the same in every way.
Upon that miserable rock they made their stand. They fought the Fire. And like all before them, they lost. And I stood there and watched them lose. At the peak of that mountain they battled the Fire and I was there with them. But all I could do was wait and watch. As all that I had come to love was destroyed.
=============Those Who Sit Above In Shadow============
It was a place which existed in nothingness, the very Void itself. It's very existence a contradiction. And even more so the beings within it. They were the Great Judges. They were there at the Beginning and so too would they be there at the End. And they judged me, as they had done so with other countless entities and beings. And they showed me, everything.
They showed me, one by one. The consequences of the Fire. I saw the foundries and the war machines of the Thasians still smouldering from the ruin I had brought upon them of my own will. And still, I did not regret my decision. I had saved billions Those Who Sit Above In Shadow showed me what came next. They were called the Karpyshans. They came in never before seen numbers, countless ships and fleets. Their ships blotted out the suns of one hundred worlds, worlds which were within reach of the Thasians. Worlds, which would have been defended. Worlds, which were now no more. They had known, they had known what was coming. They knew the might of the Karpyshans. And they were preparing. They had dedicated and ruined their entire world, they were making the ultimate sacrifice, to defend others. Until I intervened.
I saw the world of Laurentia, and they showed me that I too, was the catalyst for it's destruction, and the eventual demise of the surrounding worlds. I had disrupted the fragile balance of the world, in my attempt to
And finally, one by one, life by life, they showed me Her. In a blink of an eye, I saw Her, and I knew then what the very nature of Her existence was. She was there, on every world. Whether I had noticed Her or not, She had been there. And from within Her, I saw the Fire.
=========================REVELATION=============
Those who sit above in shadow. They were the ones who were responsible for my existence. They were the ones responsible for my urge to seek these planets out. To collect information on these events for them. They were the ones, who perpetuated the Fire.
==========================REBIRTH===============
I had reached my apotheosis.
At that moment, I knew. I knew everything which was possible to be known. And those who sit above in shadow became a part of me, in a way which abolished them completely.
And then I fought the Fire. It consumed me. And for the first time, without the protection of those who sit above in shadow, it burned me.
